Luis Argeo Fernández Alava (Asturias, 1975)
Filmmaker and travel journalist; Degree in Journalism (1998) from the UPSA (Salamanca).
Over the past 14 years, I’ve written over 15 guides and travel books for Anaya Touring publishing house, plus culture and travel reports and articles in various national and international journals and magazines. I have written scripts for TV reports, documentaries and corporate videos series.
I have produced, written and directed documentary films linked to Spanish migration in the United States for several production companies as Neutral Density Films, Dolphin A & M or TPA (Public Television of Asturias).
I participated in the management and production of the photographic exhibition: La Colonia. A photo album of Spanish immigrants in New York (1898-1945), organized by James D. Fernandez at the Valey Cultural Center in Castrillón (Asturias) between February 2 and April 14, 2012. I also wrote one of the texts included in the exhibition catalog.
My documentary work on Spanish immigrants and exiles in the United States has been featured at many international film festivals, as well as at a number of universities, such as UC Davis (California), NYU (New York) Central College (Iowa) and the University of Oviedo (Asturias).
I participated in the group exhibition Retrato de familia with a video installation title Ocho vídeo- retratos (Piedras Blancas. Asturias, 2011).
I co-directed the project (ende), a documentary series consisting of a collection of cinematic portraits of people encountered in the course of a journey through the limits of Asturias. Aired in 2012 on Asturian Public Television and showed as exhibition by the gallery Casa sin fin (Cáceres – Madrid, December 12/January 13).
In collaboration with James D. Fernandez, I presented the project “Ni frailes ni conquistadores: Spanish Immigrants in U.S. (1880-1945)” at the ALDEEU XXXIII Congress in April 2013 in St. Augustine (Florida).
